With the advent of a new millennium, Hallym University is just on the threshold of its adulthood. For the last twenty years, it has effected a brilliant achievement
To mention a few highlights, in 1995 it was designated by the Ministry of Education as one of a handful of universities entitled to receive the financial support of the Ministry for their specialization programs. After that, it continued to be so designated consecutively for five years.
In addition, it has acquired the status of "distinguished university," the title granted by the Ministry of Education, three years in a row, and has also been selected for funding by the Brain Korea 21 Project. With such a history of substantial growth and development, Hallym University is now prepared to embark on a new, promising era as a prominent private institution for advanced learning. It will maintain its efforts to develop into a world-class university. The following timeline shows a brief history of the process it has undergone to reach its current status:

1982
Jan 8. Dr. Yoon Duck-Sun, the Chairman of the Il-Song Education Foundation, founds Hallym University.
Mar 1. Dr. Kim Taek-Il begins his service as first President.
A total of 228 students are enrolled in four departments: English, Social Work, Biology, and Medicine.

1984
Apr 1. The Schools of Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Medicine plus the Liberal Education Department are established.
Dec 10. Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, one of five hospitals affiliated with the University, opens.

1986
Mar 1. Dr. Hyun Seung-Jong installed as second President.

1987
Nov 9. Graduate Programs for the Master's degree are accredited.

1988
Nov 10. University reorganization authorized (College of Humanities, College of Social Sciences, College of Natural Sciences, College of Medicine. 4 colleges, 2 divisions).

1989
Mar 1. Start of full-scale operations at Hallym University. Inauguration of 1st President, Hyun Seung-Jong, Ph.D.
Nov 6. Establishment of a Ph.D program is authorized.
Nov 21. Inauguration of 2nd President, Yoon Dae-Won, Ph.D.

1990
Mar 1. Establishment of Hallym Academy of Sciences.

1992
Dec 2. Inauguration of 2nd President, Chung Bum-Mo, Ph.D.

1994
Oct 21. Establishment of the Graduate School of Business authorized.

1995
June 1. Establishment of the Foreign Language Education Center.
Dec 20. Establishment of the Center for Social Education.

1996
Mar 1. Inauguration of 3rd President, Lee Sang-Joo, Ph.D.

1998
Dec 7. Inauguration of 4th President, Han Dal-Sun, Ph.D.

2000
May 5. Opening of the Ilsong Arts Hall.

2001
July 26. Establishment of the Graduate School of Public Health.

2002
Feb 16. Establishment of the Industry-University Cooperation Center

2003
Feb 1. Inauguration of 5th President, Lee Sang-Woo, Ph.D.
Mar 1. Establishment of the Center for Teaching & Learning.
Sep 24. Hallym University is honored as a "Top 10" university in Korea by Joong-Ang Daily Newspaper.
Dec 04. Hallym University proclaims University Identification.

2004
May 12. The main entrance is completed.
July 1. Hallym International School is established.
Sep 8. Hallym International Dormitory is opened.

2005
March 9. Education Center for Aging Society is opened.
Aug 30. Tae-gye building is opened.

2006
March 15. Il-song Memorial library is opened.

2007
Feb 1. Inauguration of 6th President, Kim Choongsoo, Ph.D.

2008
Apr 8. Inauguration of 7th President, Lee Youngsun, Ph.D.

2012
March 14. Inauguration of 8th President, Ro Kunil, Ph.D.
