Hallym University signed a business agreement with Chuncheon City and Kangwon National University on the 9th February, 2021.
The agreement sees the establishment of a sustainable development plan between the universities and city, with university research playing a key role.
□ The University Cooperation Council proactively responds to changes in the future education environment, such as the reduction of the school-age population through coexistence and cooperation between the city government and universities, and government public offerings.
□ The main contents of the agreement are:
▲Identifying policy projects to develop local communities and solving problems.
▲Identifying tasks for win-win development between the municipal government and universities.
▲Establishing a joint response system for government policy projects.
▲Establishing a policy research and advisory system to solve problems in local communities.
▲Fostering outstanding local talent and creating jobs.
▲Discovering joint projects for international exchange and international development cooperation.
□ The University Cooperation Council is operated by a dedicated team formed by both universities at Kangwon University for odd-numbered years and Hallym University for even-numbered years.
□ Along with this, the municipal government and both universities plan to form a separate working-level council to collect tasks from professors from each school on regional issues and educational development, and reflect the results of research in the initial budget of the municipal government next year.
□ The University Cooperation Council is expected to play a major role in overcoming regional and university disparities, creating a driving force for future development in Chuncheon, and reinforcing a close and precise cooperation system.
□ Above all, it is expected to be able to provide high-quality higher education services to college students and citizens by preparing strategies for regional conditions and college-specific specialization, fostering future talent and creating quality jobs.
□ Chuncheon Mayor Lee Jae-soo said, “Through this agreement, I hope that the university's professional and abundant educational resources will not only stay within the university, but also become the center of the bridge between the university and the Chuncheon community.”
□ President Kim Choongsoo said, "I hope this agreement will serve as a cornerstone for the long-term development of Chuncheon, and furthermore, I hope that it will become a model of success for the development of Korea."
□ Furthermore, the city government enacted the 'Ordinance on Support for University Cooperation Projects, etc. to move toward a ‘university city’ that coexists with the region.
□ In particular, projects such as the 'Chuncheon City University Urban Policy Council' consisting of the presidents, deans, and mayors of six universities in the jurisdiction, university win-win forums, idea contests, and research support assistance are being promoted.
